FAQs- Volunteer
Q. How do I become a worker at the sale?
A. Simply visit the “Volunteer” section of our web site to view all available volunteer shifts. You will be contacted by our volunteer coordinator to confirm your scheduled time.
Q. What is the benefit of working at the sale?
A. Well— besides being a lot of fun—it allows you to shop early at the pre-sale event beginning on Thursday of sale week. If you commit to work a minimum of 4.25 hours, you get shop from 10 am - 2 pm. You are also welcome to come later that night at 5:30 pm. Most importantly, you are helping a good cause. ALL of our profits go the children’s and youth ministries at the Otter Creek Church, to the Otter Creek Preschool and Kindergarten, and many other ministries that help children locally and around the world. Visit our "ministries" tab to learn more.
Q. What type of jobs will I be asked to do at the sale?
A. There are a variety of jobs to be done at the sale: we have screeners who work our drop-off times, workers who straighten the floor and keep it looking nice during the sale, volunteers who watch the door and check receipts as the customers leave, workers who sort the consignors’ cards index cards, people who work the check out terminals, volunteers who sort all remaining items when the sale is over to get ready for the pick-up time on Sunday… There is MUCH to do. You will be adequately trained and supervised by our amazing volunteer coordinators. Visit our "volunteer" tab to learn more about the specific roles that are available.
Q. What if I need to change my scheduled work time?
A. Contact our volunteer coordinator- you can contact her via email- volunteers@ottercreeksale.com
Q. What time do I need to show up for my shift?
A. We ask all of our volunteers to arrive at least 15 minutes before his/her shift begins so that jobs can be assigned, instructions given, and badges and aprons can be picked up to wear.
Q. Can I bring children to the volunteer early shopping time on Thursday?
A. As much as we LOVE children—(that is why we do the sale!)— we just do not have the room on our crowded floor to allow ANY children under 10 to come to our early shopping night. This includes babies in strollers and carriers. It is our busiest and craziest night—and it just isn’t a safe place for children. We realize it is a sacrifice for you to plan ahead for babysitting, etc., but most agree that it helps make the overall early shopping experience go more smoothly and peacefully. Of course, children are gladly welcome to attend the public sale at any time.
Q. What if I can’t work during the actual sale—are there other times available?
A. Yes. We have a pre-sale shift and drop-off shifts available that happen in the days leading up to the sale. These are times where we tag our donated items, prepare the sale floor, and accept items from our consignors. Visit the website “volunteer” page to learn more and to view the available times.
